These gauges utilize the principle of eddy current for non-ferrous metals and magnetic induction for ferrous ones while measuring the thickness of paints and coatings on metallic substrates. Digital types measure 1 μm for resolution and provide immediate readings as well as statistical functions (min/max/average) which increase efficiency in automotive refinishing and aerospace corrosion inspection. Calibration employs standard foils such as 50 μm and 500 μm; hence, GB/T 4956 and ISO 2808-2021 standards are met. Their accuracy is claimed for 3% or 2 μm.
