Parallel sets not only allow the spacing and leveling of a work piece in milling and drilling machines but also consist of precision-ground steel bars in specified thicknesses (1 mm to 50 mm). The high carbon steel comprising of these with lapped surfaces (Ra=0.4μm) allows for a hardness of 60-62 HRC which gives them dimensional accuracy of ±0.002mm.
