Using electrons for measurement, displays of real time processing (DROs) enhance traditional machine tools by adding the ability to achieve ‘real-time’ precision ranging from 0.001 to 0.01 millimeters. The working range of linear scales (optical/magnetic) and rotary encoders achieves up to seventy percent improvement in accuracy during the setup phase in milling and lathe operations. DROs with multi-axis functions and GUI aids in contouring, backlash compensation, and display contouring, thus positioning the units as essential auxiliary to legacy machines in instructional shops and job labs.
